FREDERICK JOSEPH LANGENFELD Fred Langenfeld quietly passed away November 26, 2015 at the age of 91. Fred will be dearly missed by his two beloved sons, Michael (Erin) and Todd (Cookie, Jeffrey and Christina). Fred's two greatest joys were his granddaughters, Desiree and Sydni. Michael, Erin, Desiree and Sydni lived just two doors down the street from Fred and the many memories they shared will comfort them always. Fred was much loved by all his relatives and the many friends he made throughout his life. Fred was predeceased by his wife Vivian in 2009. Fred was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on November 19, 1924. He grew up in the North End of Winnipeg attending Machray School until 1941 at which time he began his apprenticeship as a goldsmith/diamond setter. After his apprenticeship Fred served in the Canadian Army for a short period of time until the end of the Second World War. After the war his career as a jeweler took him to Vancouver, then onto Los Angeles, where he created and repaired jewelry for movie sets and movie stars including Sophia Loren. In 1957 he was married to Vivian and in 1963 he returned to Winnipeg to start his family and raise two sons. Fred continued to work in the jewelry trade until he retired in 1987. Each summer family vacations were spent traveling throughout Canada and the US or just relaxing at the lake. His travel dream was realized in 1988 when he traveled to Germany, meeting his many relatives in his namesake town of Langenfeld. He was a proud long standing member of the Canadian Legion where he would spend time with friends and participating in the darts and carpet bowling leagues. Earlier this year Fred chose to move out of his home of 50 years to Devonshire Place where he continued to make many new friends and enjoy a bit of the good life. Dad enjoyed living at Devonshire Place and participated in the various activities provided to the residents, quickly becoming an integral part of their circle. Much thanks is given to the Home Care workers, Concordia Hospital staff, and the staff at Devonshire Place for all the support and care Fred received. A memorial and celebration of life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, 117 Regent Ave., Transcona, on December 12, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Siloam Mission of Winnipeg. Dad was always the light in the room. He always had a smile on his face and everyone who met him quickly grew to love him. He was a kind, gentle man and a great father. We will truly miss him and he will be loved and in our hearts forever.
